Children’s Mental Health Week 2023

Children’s Mental Health Week is an initiative that runs from 6-12th February. This year’s theme is ‘Let’s Connect’.

Let’s Connect is about ‘making meaningful connections for all’ during Children’s Mental Health Week and beyond. We know people thrive when we have positive connections and it is vital for our wellbeing.

When we have healthy connections with friends, family and colleagues, our sense of wellbeing is strengthened and our mental health is supported.

Not having these connections can leave us feeling isolated and lonely, which can have a negative impact on our mental health. For Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, people are being encouraged to connect with others in a healthy, rewarding and meaningful way.

We have listed some of our favourite ideas of how you could connect with the children in your life to increase their sense of wellbeing and support their mental health – and make you feel great too!

  • Put aside 20 minutes every day – Turn off the TV, put away your phone and give your child your full attention for 20 minutes, every day, to reconnect and let him know he matters.

  • Go on a special outing – Visit the zoo, jump in puddles at the park or have a date at the cinema. Spending one on one time with your child will give you an opportunity to communicate, build on your relationship and ask questions about their week.

  • Eat dinner (or breakfast, or lunch) together – Not only is this a good time for children to learn through remodelling, it’s a good opportunity for the whole family to connect and find out what is going on with each other.

At BNSHE, we offer a young children’s mental health course which covers a range of important topics related to mental health conditions that children and young people can experience. It gives you confidence and understanding of the many ways you can offer them support.
